There are 9 separate Calcutta’s for the 2017 Beach Haven Marlin & Tuna Club White Marlin Invitational. Entrants can participate at the level they prefer.

The respective levels for the White Marlin Invitational Calcutta’s are:

$500, $1,000, and $1,500 Calcutta

$2,000 Super Calcutta

  • Heaviest Tuna — 50%

If no qualifying White Marlin is caught, the Super Calcutta will be distributed in the following manner:

  • Heaviest Tuna – 50%
  • 2nd Heaviest Tuna – 30%
  • 3rd Heaviest Tuna – 20%

If no qualifying Tuna is caught, the Super Calcutta will be distributed in the following manner:

  • Heaviest White Marlin – 50%
  • 2nd Heaviest White Marlin – 30%
  • 3rd Heaviest White Marlin – 20%

$1,000 White Marlin Release Calcutta

  • Most releases day one — 15%
  • Most releases day two — 15%
  • 2nd most releases day one — 10%
  • 2nd most releases day two — 10%
  • Most releases overall — 30%
  • 2nd most releases overall — 20%

If no qualifying Tuna is caught, the Super Calcutta will be distributed in the following manner:

  • 1st Place Winner takes all

$250 Boat Size 29’ and under Calcutta

  • 1st Place Heaviest White Marlin35%

Calcutta Rules

White Marlin and Tuna Calcutta Rules

  1. All Tuna Calcutta payouts are subject to the fish meeting NMFS rules (HMS angling category rules).
  2. In the Event that less than three qualifying fish are caught in a particular White Marlin or Tuna Calcutta, the undistributed monies for the place or places with no qualifying fish will be distributed as follows:
    • If no third place qualifying White Marlin is caught, that money will be split equally between the first and second place White Marlin. If no second place qualifying White Marlin is caught, all money in the White Marlin Category will go to the first place White Marlin.
    • If there is a tie for 1st place in the Calcutta, the tie splits 1st and 2nd place money. If there is a tie for 2nd place in the Calcutta, the tie splits the 2nd and 3rd place money. If there is a tie for 3rd place in the Calcutta, the tie splits 3rd place money.
    • If no qualifying White Marlin is caught, that money will go to the Tuna winners (example: 1st to 1st, 2nd to 2nd, 3rd to 3rd).
    • If no third place qualifying Tuna is caught, that money will be split equally between the first and second place Tuna. If no second place qualifying Tuna is caught, all money in the Tuna Category will go to the first place Tuna.
    • If there is a tie for 1st place in the Calcutta, the tie splits 1st and 2nd place money. If there is a tie for 2nd place in the Calcutta, the tie splits the 2nd and 3rd place money. If there is a tie for 3rd place in the Calcutta, the tie splits 3rd place money.
    • If no qualifying Tuna are caught, the money will go to the White Marlin winners (example: 1st to 1st, 2nd to 2nd, 3rd to 3rd).
    • In the event that there is no qualifying White Marlin or Tuna caught, the prize money would be refunded to all entrants of Calcuttas at the level they participate in.
  3. There is no size requirement for Calcutta prizes for Wahoo or Dolphin
  4. Checks will be accepted for Calcutta entries until July 15th Cash is required after July 15th.
  5. Anglers and Crews winning $20,000 or more may be required to take and pass, at the determination of the test administrator, a polygraph test prior to the distribution of any Calcutta awards. Polygraph testing may be administered at the discretion of the WMIT tournament committee.  The test Administrator and the WMIT committee will evaluate the results and determine the winner of each Calcutta award.   The polygraph testing will occur at The Beach Haven Marlin & Tuna Club, 420 N. Pennsylvania Ave, Beach Haven NJ 08008, Sunday July 30th 2017 (exact time to be announced). 
  6. Prize money will not be awarded to anyone who fails to provide a social security number OR federal ID number OR refuses to take a polygraph examination.
  7. Tournament Participants are assumed to have all of the necessary permits, licenses, and/or registrations required by law. However, it is not the responsibility of the tournament officials or directors to verify that all required permits, licenses, and/or registrations have been acquired by anglers participating in the WMIT tournament. 

Dolphin Wahoo Calcutta Rules

    • Paid out 50/50 to heaviest in Dolphin and Wahoo species
    • If no Wahoo are caught, the award goes to the Dolphin
    • If no Dolphin are caught, the award goes to the Wahoo

    If no qualifying fish are caught, the Calcutta money will be refunded to participants in this Calcutta.

    No minimum weight or size for this Calcutta

Blue Marlin Calcutta Rules

105” LJFL minimum

In the event that there is no qualifying Blue Marlin caught, Calcutta money will be refunded to participants in the Blue Marlin Calcutta.

Bluefin Tuna Calcutta Rules

  • 1st Place Heaviest Bluefin Tuna 60%
  • 2nd Heaviest Bluefin Tuna 40%
  • This tournament is fishing under NMFS rules (HMS angling category rules).
    This is a trolling tournament only – no live bait or jigging. All Beach Haven WMIT fishing and tournament rules apply.

    No Bluefin tuna can or will be used towards any of the main treasure chest, awards or Calcuttas. The Bluefin Tuna Calcuttas cannot be combined with any other Calcutta.

29’ Boat Size and under Calcutta Rules

  • In the event no qualifying White Marlin or Tuna are caught in the pool, money in that pool goes to the corresponding White Marlin or Tuna pool.
  • In the event that there is no qualifying White Marlin or Tuna caught, the prize money would be refunded to all participants in the Calcutta
  • This Calcutta is for boats meeting the below qualifications:

The $250 Calcutta for Boats 29’ and under is for boats 29’ and under only.  Boat length is determined by LOA (Length Over All).  Length Over All (LOA) is the horizontal distance between the outboard side of the foremost part (bow) of the hull and the outboard side of the aftermost part (stern) of the hull. It does not include bow rail, pulpit, rudders, outboard motor brackets, swim platforms that do not contain buoyant volume, and other similar fittings and attachments that are not part of the buoyant hull envelope.

Calcutta size limits

  • Blue Marlin – 105 inches LJFL
  • White (hatchet*) marlin — 67 inches LJFL – All fish under 67″ will be disqualified.
  • *Hatchet marlin (roundscale spearfish considered a white marlin)
  • Longbill spearfish — retention prohibited/NO PRIZE
  • Yellowfin & big eye tuna — Current NMFS Regulations
  • True albacore – Current NMFS Regulations
  • Dolphin – No Minimum Size/Weight
  • Wahoo — No Minimum Size/Weight


A 3% administrative fee will be retained from all Calcutta’s, whether paid or not, to assist in offsetting a portion of Tournament expenses
